Rice Export to Spain from India

Kumud Group has been growing, milling, and exporting rice from India since 1994. With two mills, one in Sandi Chungi, Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, and one in Village Nariana, Taraori, Karnal, Haryana, sitting in India’s GI-certified basmati belt, the company supplies Basmati and Non-Basmati rice to more than 30 countries across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.

For Spain, Kumud Group works with importers, wholesalers, foodservice distributors, and retail packers who need reliable rice supply at container-load volumes. The company runs on one simple rule: what we wouldn’t feed our own family, we won’t sell to yours.

Rice Import Compliance and Regulations for Spain

Spain is part of the European Union, so rice imports follow EU-wide food law along with Spanish customs procedures. Any shipment moving from India to Spain needs to satisfy this framework from the point of loading to the point of clearance at a Spanish port.

EU Food Safety Standards

Rice entering Spain has to meet the general requirements of EU food law, including:

  • Regulation (EC) No 178/2002, which lays out the general principles of EU food safety law.
  • Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, which sets maximum residue limits (MRLs) for pesticides in food.
  • Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006, which sets maximum levels for contaminants such as heavy metals in foodstuffs.

These apply to Basmati and Non-Basmati rice alike, regardless of the exporting country.

Labelling Requirements

Under EU Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, food sold at retail in Spain must carry information that Spanish consumers can easily understand. For retail-ready packs, this means labelling in Spanish, along with country of origin, net weight, and batch or lot number. Kumud Group’s private label service can build packaging around these requirements for partners selling into Spanish retail or foodservice channels.

  • Custom private label packaging, built to the buyer’s branding and the format the Spanish market needs.

Shipping and Minimum Order Quantity

The minimum order quantity is 20 to 21 MT, equal to one container load. Shipments move from India by sea and typically clear through major Spanish container ports such as Valencia, Barcelona, or Algeciras, though the exact port of discharge depends on the buyer’s location and shipping terms.
