Rice Export to Finland from India

Kumud Group has been exporting rice from India since 1994, with two processing units, one in Sandi Chungi, Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, and one in Village Nariana, Taraori, Karnal, Haryana, sitting inside India’s GI-certified basmati belt. The company currently supplies Basmati and Non-Basmati rice to 30+ countries across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, and Finland is one of the newer markets on that list. This page covers what Finnish importers, wholesalers, and food distributors need to know before sourcing rice from Kumud Group: the compliance side, the varieties suited to this market, and how packaging and shipping work.

EU Food Safety Requirements

All rice entering Finland has to meet EU pesticide residue limits set under Regulation (EC) 396/2005, and aflatoxin and other contaminant limits under Regulation (EC) 1881/2006. Because of past residue findings in Basmati rice from India, the EU also applies increased official controls on select consignments under Regulation (EU) 2019/1793, which means a percentage of shipments get tested for specific pesticides (tricyclazole is the one most commonly checked) before release. Kumud Group tests its rice for pesticide residues before export, and lab reports can be shared with buyers on request.

Labelling and Certification

Product labels need country of origin, net weight, batch number, and other details required under the EU Food Information to Consumers Regulation (EU 1169/2011), typically in Finnish and Swedish since both are official languages. Kumud Group’s rice is Halal certified and covered by international food safety certification; exact certificate names and numbers will be shared directly and should be confirmed against the buyer’s specific import documentation checklist before the first shipment.

Packaging and Shipping to Finland

Packaging Options

Packaging ranges from 500g retail packs up to 50kg bulk bags, and the packaging format, print, and labelling can be adjusted to what the Finnish buyer needs. Custom private label packaging is available for importers who want to sell under their own brand.

Shipping and Logistics

Finland’s largest container port is HaminaKotka, with the Port of Helsinki also handling significant container traffic; shipments are typically routed through one of these, either directly or via a transshipment hub in Northern Europe. The exact routing and freight terms for a given order are worked out with the buyer at the time of booking. Shipping documentation includes commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate, and fumigation certificate where required.
